Myotonometric Evaluation of Latent Myofascial Trigger Points and Taut Band in Elite Athletes

چکیده

Purpose: Our aim was to identify the mechanical properties of latent myofascial trigger points (MTrPs), taut band and non-taut (surrounding muscle) within gastrocnemius muscle using myotonometric evaluation method. Methods: Thirty-one asymptomatic elite rugby players (23.0±4.16 y, 97.5±22.1 kg, 183.5±7.6 cm) with a MTrP in lateral included this study. Muscle stiffness, decrement tone MTrPs, were measured myotonometer (MyotonPRO, Myoton AS, Tallinn, Estonia). One-way ANOVA conducted determine differences between three measurement points. After pairwise comparisons, Cohen’s d effect sizes calculated magnitude Results: Although stiffness MTrPs lower than its band, one-way revealed that there no difference vs for frequency, parameters (p>0.05). However, is (P= 0.016), (P=0.035) (P=0.012) are as d=0.64, d=0.69 d=0.62 respectively. Conclusion: The bands showed an increase compared surrounding muscle. could be easily identified from myotonometer. Therefore, potentially valuable method identification athletes.

Accelerated muscle fatigability of latent myofascial trigger points in humans.

OBJECTIVE Muscle fatigue is prevalent in acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions in which myofascial trigger points (MTPs) are involved. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of latent MTPs with muscle fatigue. DESIGN Intramuscular electromyographic (EMG) recordings were obtained from latent MTPs and non-MTPs together with surface EMG recordings from the upper tra...

Myofascial trigger points.

Painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system, including myofascial pain syndrome, constitute some of the most important chronic problems encountered in a clinical practice. A myofascial trigger points is a hyperirritable spot, usually within a taut band of skeletal muscle, which is painful on compression and can give rise to characteristic referred pain, motor dysfunction, and autonomic phe...

Etiology of Myofascial Trigger Points

Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is described as the sensory, motor, and autonomic symptoms caused by myofascial trigger points (TrPs). Knowing the potential causes of TrPs is important to prevent their development and recurrence, but also to inactivate and eliminate existing TrPs. There is general agreement that muscle overuse or direct trauma to the muscle can lead to the development of TrPs. M...

Myofascial Pain Syndromes– Trigger Points

During the past few months, several new studies, reviews and case studies on myofascial pain syndrome [MPS] and myofascial trigger points [TrPs] have been published. Myofascial pain syndrome and TrPs are increasingly being recognized not only in the United States, but also in Europe. Testa and colleagues [Milan, Italy] published an excellent review article detailing the clinical signs that lead...
